This week, we are excited to spotlight one of our most used (and beneficial) natural ingredients, coconut oil! Prior to starting Urban Oreganics, we spent a great deal of time researching all-natural ingredients to create our beauty and skincare products. Coconut oil immediately stood out as being multi-beneficial, and since it is so plentiful, we knew it would provide an excellent base for many of our products.
Coconut oil is an edible oil extracted from mature coconuts. It is used for practically everything nowadays, including cooking, medicinal applications, and in many beauty and skincare products. Coconut oil is usually linked with health benefits like improved digestion and boosting your metabolism. Additionally, it works wonders for your skin, hair, and nails. Coconut oil is rich in antioxidants, contains lauric acid, is abundant with Vitamin E; all ingredients that are essential for healthiest skin!
Organic pure virgin coconut oil is used as a base for all our cleansing bars as it naturally hydrates and conditions skin, helps to retain moisture, controls frizz, and is antimicrobial. Our core line includes Simply Coconut, Detox, and Baby Shampoo & Wash. Keep an eye out for seasonal bars which are released five times a year. Right now, we are offering our cleansing bar in Wild Citrus for the summer season. It’s the perfect cleansing bar for summer as it soothes sun-damaged and dry skin and leaves an invigorating scent of citrus fruits.
Our Baby Oil and Body Oil are the perfect all-over body moisturizer. Because they are made using mostly coconut oil (combined with other high-quality ingredients), we recommend applying these to the skin right after bath or shower as the coconut oil will act to lock in moisture and keep skin supple all day long. Since coconut oil is antifungal as well, many parents report an improvement in baby’s cradle cap while using our Baby Oil.
As if our exfoliating Sugar Scrubs needed any extra benefits, we added fractionated coconut oil to aid in healing dry skin and retaining moisture. Our core scrub, available year-round, is our Coffee Scrub and our seasonal scrub for summer is Wild Citrus.
We also use a bit of fractionated coconut oil in our Makeup Remover as it helps to retain moisture, hydrates and conditions skin, and is anti-bacterial.
Our everyday moisturizers, Facial Cream and Body Food, were handcrafted to provide all-day moisture, condition skin, and prevent environmental damage and aging. The same goes for our seasonal Lip Butters. With the help of coconut oil and other key ingredients, it’s no wonder these three are best-sellers in the shop.
Coconut Oil is also known to be naturally antibacterial and antifungal, making it the perfect base for our Baby Butter. Not only is this lush cream perfect for preventing and healing diaper rash, but it is multi-use for moms, too! The calendula-infused balm helps to heal sore, cracked nipples and helps heal perineum tears.
One of the first products we developed was an all-natural deodorant that actually works! The pure coconut oil in our deodorant hydrates and conditions skin (good-bye razor burn) and is anti-bacterial so it keeps odor at bay!
Last, but certainly not least, is our best-selling Brush Cleaner. This stuff is magical, ask anyone who has tried it! We chose to use pure virgin coconut oil as the base for this cleaner, not only because it is antibacterial, but because the coconut oil will naturally condition your brush bristles while it cleans.
